IMAGES

CONCEPT

Adding images to web documents is not the same as inserting pictures in a Microsoft Word document. In HTML documents, images are referenced and not embedded. The image tag looks like: <img src="flower.gif">, where "flower.gif" is the name of an independent image file in the same folder.

An important consideration is which image formats are used on the Web? Basically, two image formats rule the Web: GIF and JPEG or JPG.

IMAGE FORMATS

GIF: 256 colours; graphics

JPG: millions of colours; photos

COLOUR

RGB: Red, Green, Blue

CYMK: Cyan, Yellow, Magenta, Black

Browser safe colours: 216 colours
