You have less than a minute. (A lot less!) Your site should load, tell the users who you are, what your purpose is and why they should stay to find out more in well under minute. It has been estimated that sites lose 20% of new visitors for every 10 seconds it takes for their first page to load. This means that a page taking one minute to load could lose three quarters of its visitors. Those that have put in the wait will be reluctant to drill any deeper into your site. The chances of them coming back are slim. It is essential for a business site to find a balance between graphics/multimedia and download time. Never come between your customer and your product. Whether you are selling a product or service, seeking strategic alliances or a new employee always make sure that the means to completing the transaction is easy to find. This means simple intuitive navigation -- from anywhere in your site. Don't exclude anyone. Be wary of new technologies that will only work on high level browsers. Suggesting "Upgrade Now!" doesn't help the user who's computer doesn't have sufficient memory or disk space to support version 4 browsers. This holds true of multimedia plugins as well. Many will only work on newer machines and, if they are not already installed, your customer is more likely to move on than to install the required plugin. If a multimedia presentation will truly add value to your site we will be happy to provide it on its own separate page with a warning to your user in the link. Give them a reason to keep coming back. There are a number of ways to encourage repeat visits. Things such as discounts, contests, newsletters, quizzes, indexed links etc., may or may not be appropriate for your company. But one thing is always on target -- Information. The number one reason people use the Web is to find information. Together, we will design your site so that it can be easily updated with new information. Don't panic now, thinking that you may not have enough of interest to say. We will find your target audience and they will help you. You, however, must be prepared to assign the time required to update your site on a regular basis. A static site will die. Its been proven time and time again. Sound a little daunting? I hope you are excited rather than put off. On a personal level I have seen many people transformed by their discovery of the Internet. The same holds true of businesses that actively pursue the Internet's potential. ![]() IF YOU WOULD LIKE MORE INFORMATION ON THE INTERNET, HTML, WEB GRAPHICS AND WEB MARKETING VISIT OUR RESOURCE SECTION. ![]() |

The Process Site creation breaks down into three major parts -- 1. Pre-production This is the planning stage of the Web site that will fulfill not only your company's needs but also those of your target audience. It requires a strong understanding on our part of who you are, what your current marketing methods are and what you expect from an Internet presence. This part of the process culminates in a detailed production proposal including a schematic of your site and a graphical layout presentation. 2. Production The actual technical and artistic creation of your Web site. Writing the code, creating custom graphics, scanning and optimizing photos, inserting your written content, creating and configuring any JavaScript, CGI and multimedia elements that are required. 3. Post production Your web site is up. Registering it with search engines and directories. Announcing it through News Groups and e-mail. Establishing reciprocal links with other sites. Advertising through banners and Newsletters, if appropriate. -- The ongoing maintenance, improvement and marketing of your Web site. ![]() FOR OUR "CLIENT PRE-PRODUCTION CHECKLIST" PLEASE CLICK ON THE MAILTO LINK BELOW.
