FOR THE STUDENT

This four-week course has been designed to provide you with a basic understanding of web design, HTML and the tools and resources required to plan, build and maintain a web site.

It has been identified that knowledge of basic HTML and web document design and management skills are in demand in the work force. This course is designed to train clerical and administrative personnel in basic web design, building and maintenance techniques. Skills acquired may be used to supplement current document processing skills such as those acquired through MS Office applications. Students seeking employment as web designers should seek longer, more in-depth programs.

A wide variety of topics comprise web design. We will examine the important topics and issues. In 48-hours of class time we cannot examine many issues in great depth. Some topics may be touched on briefly and others, not presented at all. Students are encouraged to pursue areas of interest that may extend beyond the course.

The Web offers a tremendous amount of advice, resources and instruction in web site development. Much will be drawn from the Web during the course and important resources will be identified to the student.

All the information delivered in this course is available in textbooks and on the Web. So why take this course? The value of this course is neither in the textbook nor from web sites. Rather, it is in knowledge shared, lessons learned and the organization and presentment of the most important information for the audience. Value comes from focus, direction, accountability and the ability to communicate with teams. The Web is not about technology, it is about communicating.

How can you do well in this course? Listen, follow directions and use your time well. In the fast moving, ever-changing world of the Web, this simple advice will separate you from the pack.
