If DV is a
perfect marriage
then DVD is
"makin' whoopee".
This brilliant
new technology
redefines Home
Entertainment
and Interactive
Multimedia.

Pristine images, massive storage capacity, Dolby Digital (AC3) sound, interactivity and on your PC, backward compatibility with CD-ROM. Okay, I'm sold!

I recently completed the first ever Course on DVD Authoring put on by Dr. Panos Nasiopoulos, Chief Scientist for Daikin Comtec. The course covered Digital Video, MPEG 2 video compression, Dolby Digital audio, preparation and encoding of video and audio assets and two days of hands on experience in authoring with Daikin's Scenarist DVD Authoring software. This doesn't make me an expert but it certainly gave me a taste of the future of Multimedia.

The issues surrounding the DVD authoring process are extremely complex and, at present, the hardware and software are very expensive. Properly done, however, the experience of the end user is seamless and awesome. I am especially excited about the possibilities of presenting live performance, such as Opera and Theatre in a manner that has never before been possible.

I am an enthusiast, obviously. I would very much like to have a place in this great new area of Multimedia. Next year, when DVD-ROM drives start shipping in the new Pentium II PC's, there is going to be a huge demand for DVD content. If you are planning to be a provider of that content, hire me!
